Laughing Belly

I picked up Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy last week when I finally couldn't renew my more clinical pregnancy books from the library anymore. I just finished reading it yesterday and I know that Jenny's no prize winning author, but when it comes to talking about the gross parts of pregnancy she's at the top of her game. I enjoyed her candidness surrounding some of the more taboo topics, and I'm the first to admit that toilet humor makes me laugh. I don't care if that makes me a 12 year old boy, it's funny, dammit! Based on some of the later chapters, I certainly hope that I continue to escape some of the worse pregnancy symptoms, but at least now I won't be alone in my suffering should they happen to me. The only part that I didn't care for was in the last bits. Jenny thinks an epidural is God's gift to women and kind of suggested that you're a damn fool if you don't get one. Now, I am no where near making any kind of decision about that kind of stuff, but I've got an open mind and don't like being chastised for thinking about not getting one.

Next up on my list is Baby Bargains by Denise Fields. I have this one on request at the library, but it looks like there is a long list of requesters ahead of me. So, I may just have to buy myself a copy. When we were getting married, Bridal Bargains, a sister book by the same author, was like a bible in 'how not to get screwed financially while navigating the waters of the smarmy wedding industry.' From what I have read, Baby Bargains does the same to separate the must haves from the wants, and the reasonably priced to the why would you spend a mortgage payment on that? stuff. After all, a frugal baby is a happy baby.
