Welcome Alexander Michael Walters

Alexander Michael Walters was born on Saturday, July 12th at 12:38 pm weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.

E-mail I sent out on Saturday night that talks about some of the details:
Thank you all for your warm wishes. I'm recovering quite well. Bill is super tired as he had only gone to bed about an hour and a half before my water broke unexpectedly this morning (~3:45 AM). We arrived at the hospital not long after 5 am were checked and due to my water breaking I was started on some antibiotics (since we didn't know if I was Strep B positive) and some pitocin to help along my labor. We had some breakfast and I labored pretty easily for a couple of hours before the contractions became much stronger. {In between I labored by walking around the floors of Labor and Delivery, on a birth ball, and in a rocking chair.} I moved to the tub {near the end} to and nearly didn't make it out before it was time to push. 10 minutes later, Alex was born at 12:38 pm. He weighed 5 lbs 15 oz and was 20 inches long. He has a little bit of brown hair and he hasn't let us see what color his eyes are yet. We got to enjoy his first hour in this world hanging out and falling in love before they had to take him to be checked in the nursery by the on call pediatric staff. We learned that he'll need to stay there for the time being since he has some fluid in his lungs and is a tiny peanut. He's doing pretty well otherwise and doesn't need to be transferred to a higher level NICU at one of the Boston hospitals, so that's good news. I'm working on establishing my milk supply with pumping in the meantime, and holy shit is that weird.

I've attached a sneak peak of our little guy from our latest visit with him in the nursery. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my camera cable to upload pictures from there, so this cell pic will have to do for now. My mom drove out today and left me with her laptop so that I can be an internet fiend and update you all.

much love,
Becky (Bill and Alex too!)

I'm home now, and our little guy is still in the special care nursery but is improving. I'm up for a pumping session, so I apologize if there are typos or other mistakes. This update was a copy and paste of an email I sent out to some friends about Alex's birth. I'll elaborate more on his birth story and his status overall later. We're so in love.

Welcome to the world, Alex! We realize that calling you stumpy is now completely inappropriate - it seems that you are long and elegant rather than short and... well, stumpy.

Good job, Becky! He's beautiful. Kristen tells me he's feisty, just like his mama.
